The Crow Tribal Historic Preservation Office was created by the Crow Tribal Legislature in October 2005 to protect traditional cultural resources. The THPO identifies, evaluates, and protects cultural, historic, and archeological resources.

The THPO maintains Tribal register of cultural places properties composed of religious sites, traditional cultural properties, burial sites, archeological sites, districts, buildings, and structures significant to the history, life ways, and customs of the Apsáalooke.

The THPO also issues permits for excavation and construction projects within the exterior boundaries of the Crow Reservation.
